2 ans d’expérience d’ARC, comment devenir rapidement chef de projet

« Je me permets de vous écrire pour avoir de vos conseils. Je suis ATTACHÉ DE RECHERCHE CLINIQUE depuis un an et demi et ATTACHÉ DE RECHERCHE CLINIQUE 2 récemment. J’aimerais devenir chef de projet étant bordelaise. Quelle formation me conseilleriez-vous ? Bon week-end. »

Donc, tout d’abord, ce que je voudrais dire par rapport à cette question c’est que là, tu as deux ans d’expérience, c’est très court pour pouvoir devenir chef de projet. Pour la simple et bonne raison qu’être chef de projet c’est aussi être crédible et avec deux ans d’expérience, Tu n’as pas en général toute la connaissance nécessaire pour pouvoir être crédible vis-à-vis des autres ATTACHÉS DE RECHERCHE CLINIQUE que tu vas gérer. Cela dit ça ne t’empêche pas de faire une formation de chef de projet. Il y en a plusieurs, il y a des formations qui ciblent un petit peu la partie chef de projet ; dans les universités il y a des masters II sur ça. Il doit y avoir également une formation privée qui le fait en région parisienne.

Je pense que ça c’est juste un plus pour le jour où tu vas devenir chef de projet mais ce n’est pas ça qui te permettra d’obtenir le poste que tu souhaites. En fait, la stratégie que je te recommande, c’est de travailler dans des petites structures ou de travailler à l’hôpital où tu pourras plus facilement avoir ce type de poste avec l’expérience que tu as. De plus, dans les petites structures, on te donnera plus facilement la chance de toucher à différents types de tâches et probablement également à toucher à du management de projet. Ensuite, tu verras comment rentrer dans des structures plus grosses avec ton expérience de chef de projet.

Voilà, je pense que c’est la meilleure solution pour pouvoir évoluer vers ce type de poste rapidement si tu le souhaites. Sinon, en moyenne, pour devenir chef de projet dans les grosses CROs, il faut compter un minimum de dix ans pour arriver au poste de chef de projet. Entre-temps, tu peux passer au poste de coordinateur, ce qu’on appelle Clinical trial manager. C’est un poste qui est juste en dessous de celui de chef de projet et qui surveille le monitoring des attachés de recherche clinique.

2 years of experience as CRA, how to quickly become a project manager

« I am writing to you for your advice. I have been an CRA for a year and a half and CRA 2 recently. I would like to become a project manager being from Bordeaux. What training would you advise me? Have a nice weekend. »

So, first of all, what I would like to say in relation to this question is that there, you have two years of experience, it’s very short to be able to become a project manager. For the simple and good reason that being a project manager also means being credible and with two years of experience, you don’t generally have all the knowledge necessary to be credible with the other CRA you’re going to manage. So, that said, that doesn’t prevent you from training as a project manager. There are several, there are training courses that target the project manager part a little bit; in the universities there are Masters II on this and then there must also be a private training course that does it in the Paris region.

Having said that, I think that this is just a plus for the day when you become a project manager, but it’s not what will allow you to get the job you want. In fact, the strategy that I recommend is to work in small structures or work in the hospital where you can more easily get this type of position with the experience you have. And because also in small structures, you will be more easily given the chance to touch different types of tasks and probably also to touch project management. And then you’ll see afterwards to get into bigger structures with your experience as a project manager.

That’s it, I think it’s the best solution to be able to evolve towards this type of position quickly if you wish. Otherwise, on average, to become a project manager in large CROs, it takes a minimum of ten years to reach the position of project manager. In the meantime, you can move on to the position of coordinator, which is called clinical trial manager. It’s a position that is just below the project manager position, and it’s more like managing the clinical research associate monitoring.
